Josh King is a pop rock legend, born and raised here on the Gold Coast. With strong influences from artists such as John Mayer and Ed Sheeran, this charming young gun is currently preparing to release his debut EP to the world. As it so happens, Josh will be headlining our concert series at NightQuarter this Friday, so we thought we'd get to know him a bit better before we (and hopefully you!) see him take the stage.
What was the last concert you went to?
"The Wombats! It was my first concert in about 6 years, and so it was amazing to see such an energetic and entertaining act."
When I need inspiration for songwriting, I...
"Well there's no set thing that I do, but often it all comes back to John Mayer's "Slow Dancing In A Burning Room". That's my favourite song of all time, and I honestly don't ever see that changing, and so I usually just pop that one on, or that whole record - Continuum - and somehow ideas seem to start flowing."
What's the best thing about the music industry at the moment?
"The amount of content out to listen to! Obviously this is a double-edged sword, but I still think it's cool that there are so many independent artists out there that are competing (for lack of a better word) against signed artists. I also love the diversity of stuff that I can listen to, which for me is stuff like John Mayer, Catfish and The Bottlemen, Ed Sheeran and The Wombats, just to name a few."
At the moment I'm really diggin...
"Friends! As in the 90's sitcom. I can't go past that for something to watch! Kinda sad though that it's 13 years after it ended..."
