With their track “I’m Not Comfortable” peeking curiosity on this years SEED album, there is so much we want to know about our track 3 artist, Viølet Child.
An electronic music producer and songwriter from Brisbane, Australia. With a heavy focus on creating a juxtaposition of the new and old, Viølet Child’s unique way of combining concepts from 1960's Jazz, contemporary electronic music, hip hop, R&B and pop, their unique sound is absolutely hypnotising.
Leading up to their set at QPAC on Friday 26 April 2019, we talk to them about who Viølet Child really is.
Could you describe your music to us using a movie title?
Can you tell us about ‘I’m Not Comfortable’? What is it about?
Ultimately, it's about being in a world where you feel like you don't belong. As for the specifics of the lyrics, I have my own interpretation, and I want listeners to find their own.
You produce and write all of your own songs. So Amazing! Where do you get your creative inspiration?
I listen to a lot of Jazz, so much of my musical inspiration comes from that. Thematically and lyrically, I draw inspiration from my own personal life, as well as anime like; Neon Genesis Evangelion, Perfect Blue and Serial Experiments: Lain. Basically any piece of media that questions your interpretation of reality and sense of self fuels my fire.
If you could give some advice to yourself a year ago, what would you say?
Stop worrying about your music being good enough and just release something.
What are your plans this year?
Release a lot of music and play a lot of gigs.
And finally, tell us about something you are obsessed with at the moment? What’s hot in your world right now? (Book/Movie/Podcast/TV Show/Game/Activity/Food etc)
Game Of Thrones! I can't wait for the final season to start!
